H2 Backbone Murfeld
HYDROGEN FOR AUSTRIA AND EUROPE
Hydrogen is one of the most important and promising energy sources. The project “H2 Backbone Murfeld” aims to supplement the South-East Line (SOL) with a 26.1 km parallel line for hydrogen transportation. This enables the transport of considerable quantities of hydrogen from the south, e.g. from Croatia via Slovenia or Italy, to Styria Austria. The future-oriented project is an important step towards expanding the hydrogen infrastructure while contributing to the diversification of Austria´s and Europe´s energy supply. Lastly, it will strengthen European supply security thanks to the possible connection to storage facilities.
The project is part of the Europe-wide initiative REPowerEU, which aims to enable the European import of hydrogen via five major corridors. This should provide the European Union with large quantities of CO2-neutral hydrogen in the future.
